Several of our players also turn out for Darlington thirds on a Sunday afternoon. That is good for our club as they are all getting valuable experience at a higher level....jowever once they start to progress, we will lose them to Darlo seconds and firsts!
Marton v Darlington (30.07.06)
Darlington lost their first match in nearly two seasons as they failed to beat marton on Teeside last Sunday.
Bowling first, Darlington found themselves up against a young Marton side who batted with flair and took advantage of a quick outfield.
Opening bowlers Sutton and Chapman bowled well but with little early luck. Steve Lister bowled really well taking two wickets and Thomas also added another before Chapman returned to take a wicket also.
Leg spinner Jack Vickerman had an off day and was taken for 40 runs from his two overs and Marton took the game away from the Quakers.
Marton finished on 226 for 8
In reply James Dobson opened inplace of Steven Lister who had damaged his wrist whilst in the slips. Al;an Harwood soon departed and Dobson and Sutton faced a bouncer attack from the Marton quicks.Sutton left for a duck caught at mid wicket and Dobson was joined by the injured Lister.
The pair of youngsters showed grit and determination against some steep bounce, Dobson getting hit on the visor before hooking his way out of further trouble.
Dobson was then bowled by a jaffa and Lister fought on as new batsman Nigel Fenwick attempted to keep darlington in the game.
When Lister and Fenwick departed Darlington were in real trouble and despite a brave attempt to save the game by Jamie Stewart at the end Darlington were all out for a measly 98
