The Cliffe CC Academy

Over the past four or five years a conveyor belt of young cricketers have had the good fortune to learn their skills at Cliffe Cricket Club and then move on to higher levels of league cricket.

The lessons learned as young teenagers at the Cliffe club have held them in good stead for games at NYSD league level and beyond. Learning about team etiquette, helping out with match day arrangements and batting on dodgy tracks (all away from home of course) as well as taking those first steps of playing alongside adults have all been nurtured by the likes of Ian Peacock, Dickie Adamson, Alan Curry and others.

Sometimes the youngsters find that District league is the level they are best suited to and remain loyal to Cliffe while others realise they are able to perform and stretch themselves at a higher level. Cliffe have always sent these lads on their way with their blessing which is in fact testament to the family atmosphere of a truly great club.

Several products of the "CCC Academy" have now gone on to represent Darlington CC at varying levels, some even to the heady heights of NYSD Premier league level. Others have progressed through Durham CCC age group teams and even on to the County Academy and foreign tours.

Wherever they have ended up playing their cricket I am sure everyone of them will remember the happy days at Cliffe and the cricketers who gave them their first opportunity of competitive cricket.

Below are some of the lads of who have moved on with their careers after being part of CCC Academy!

Jack Vickerman – has represented Durham CCC age group sides and Yorkshire CCC training groups as well as North of England training camps. Jack is now a regular inn Division 1 of the NYSD league with Darlington 2nds and has played on occasions in the 1st team.

James Dobson – has represented every age group at Durham and been part of the County Academy. He has toured the UAE and Sri Lanka with Durham Academy. He was selected for the North of England U 16s to play in the ECB Festival at Loughborough Centre of Excellence and is the first team wicket keeper /batsman at Feethams. He has four centuries to his name.

Andy Peacock – has progressed to one of the most adaptable and reliable players at Feethams. A regular contributor at 3rd team level, Andy is also the U 17 skipper. His ability to field well and bat has brought him games in the 2nds and 1st team when injuries have meant an extra batsman or good fielder is needed.

Dan Baldwin – recognised as the main strike spin bowler in the 2nd XI at Feethams. Dan is regularly amongst the highest wicket takers in the 1st Division.

Adam Baldwin – is developing into a real prospect with the bat. No longer a wicket keeper, Adam is concentrating on scoring runs. He is a main batsman in the 2nd team this season and has had some success in the 1st team at Feethams. Adam is now a member of the Durham county set once more after a couple of seasons out.
